Greetings everyone,

First of all welcome to Post 1287 to Andrea J. Gable. Andrea an Army Veteran served in Korea. She is a life member and transferred from VFW Post 1221 in Hibbing, Mn. While we are on the subject of membership be advised that the Life Membership and Post/Auxiliary boards will be updated in the near future. Deceased membership plates will be removed and new member plates will be arranged in alphabetical order. This is done once a year, so any concerns anyone has will be rectified in the near future. Incidentally at the February 4th District meeting in Kenyon our deceased membership will be memorialized at the annual service conducted prior to the meeting.

On March 19, 2017 the second annual Keep Kids Outdoors will be held at Black Horse In Homer. If you have a child or grandchild consider signing them up for the event. Information will be posted at the post. The event is free and is organized by the Keith Kuehl and Jerry Miller families along with sponsorship from several local businesses and organizations, VFW Post 1287 included. The event focuses on promoting youth involvement in outdoor activities including camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing and hunting.

Sponsorship of youth activities are part of the services that we provide and support in the Winona community. Valuable public exposure of our charitable activity goes a long way in promoting our mission and image in the community.

Until next month,

Jim Lukaszewski

Commander Post 1287
